I came across a very interesting site the other day while researching DC motors. It seems the good folks at BattleBots IQ offer course materials to high schools that place emphasis on robot combat as a means of getting school-aged children involved with robotics. The organization seems rather impressive from what I can tell based on their preview lesson on Evaluating Fixed Magnet DC Motors. It’s a far cry from the days of my high school shop teacher, Woody Woodrow. I wish that weren’t his real name, but I can’t make this stuff up.
You may have noticed the fancy new “TODO” list loitering around the sidebar of this blog. I decided that it would be a good idea to keep a list of tasks for the autonomous vehicle using the very classy online notetaking app stikkit. It occurred to me that such information might be of interest to anyone who may be following this blog. As it turns out, stikkit has a wonderful API for accessing stikkit content via third-party applications. What surprised me, however, was the lack of a “stikkit widget” or badge for wordpress blogs. Last night, I sat down and whipped up a little PHP script based on some sample code from processingblogs.org. I modified the code to display my todo list, including features such as strikethrough fonts for completed tasks.
I have been tossing around the idea of completing the project as an official Wordpress widget. I simply lack the proper motivation to learn the specifics of wordpress at the moment. At the moment, the code is ridiculously simple. It simply displays the first todo list in your stikkit workflow. The adventurous amongst you can feel free to try it as-is, just be sure to replace the text YOUR_API_KEY_HERE with the API key given to you from stikkit.com.
I’ll be sure to keep you posted if I make any updates.
